Josh,

I double checked the strap hook and that's in the correct place, I don't know why the strap isn't getting tight.

Hi Matt,

It can't rub there. The roll bar is inset enough, and the hook set in deep enough, that it doesn't touch the fabric. The strap does, but I'm not too concerned about that.

Do you have a pic of how the hook is supposed to be attached properly on the underside? Everyone that's looked at this top in my jeep goes, "yeah, that strap they sent you can't work."

Cheers,

Josh

I haven't heard of anyone attaching the hook their, I would keep a eye on the top of the plastic hook rubbing against the top fabric.

Hi Matt,

It's hooked firmly into the top hole on the rollbar, with the strap running to the rear over the sound bar, looping around the sound bar down to the buckle. I tried running it through the sound bar behind the rollbar, but that pulled the clip down as well as rearward, so looping it around the sound bar seemed to make more sense.

Cheers,

Josh

Hi Matt,

So I finally just made my own straps that clip in to the top hole...Much better. These ones actually pull tight and stay that way.

Do you have a pic of how the straps you send should work?

Hi Matt,

You're right; they are loose cause I can't pull the straps tight enough to put tension on them to hold tight! If I pull the strap tight (in such a way that can't be reproduced by tightening the straps through the buckles), then yes, it fully hooks on to the metal, but that just doesn't seem possible. If you've got a pic of a properly-inserted one, I'd love to see it.

Cheers,

Josh

Josh,

Thanks for the picture.  The plastic clip isn't inserted correctly,  the clip need to be fully inserted into the sound bar hole and when you pull it out it will catch the metal lip.

Hi Matt,

Yes, the clips are fully inserted into the sound bar. Yes, they are pulled as tight as I can get them, and routed properly through the buckles. I just can't route the strap tight enough, cause the doubled-over/sewn portion won't run through the acute side of the buckle.

See pic for reference: https://goo.gl/photos/LHtotNHQLvFssvEc8

I suppose I'm going to try to find some of these hooks, get my own 1" strap and sew up some longer ones, then put them on the top of the rollbar, route them down through the opening behind the metal roll bar (essentially through the sound bar) and forward to the center buckles. Hopefully I can get this rigged up tonight.

Do a lot of people have problems with their center straps?

I'll try wrapping the rear straps around the roll bars before I clip them on. That's a good idea.

Cheers,

Josh

Josh,

Thanks for contacting Bestop.  Make sure when attaching the hook on the center straps that you fully insert the hook into the sound bar hole, when you tighten the straps double check the strap is threaded in to the buckle correctly.  Try wrapping the rear strap around the roll bar once before you attach it to the tub.

Hi,

My wife purchased a Bestop Trektop NX from Quadretec for me. You can find the receipt in the forwarded e-mail below. It's for my '09 Jeep Wrangler X 2dr soft-top. I got around to installing the top Friday evening, but I only did the top itself. I haven't got to the side and rear windows yet. However, during the install I ran into a few issues and I'm hoping you can help me sort them out.

First, the center straps that clip in to the holes in the sound bar are still quite loose, even after the straps have been pulled through the buckle up to the doubled/stitched section of the hook strap. I'm guessing getting these straps tightened down would seriously cut down on the amount of flapping the top does at highway speeds, so I'd like to know if there's a fix available.

Second, how tight do the rear straps need to be? I've got them cranked down pretty tight, but I suspect they are too tight. Crystal (from your online chat support) suggested that if the rear j-track is bowed, it's probably too tight...Is that correct?

Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to getting this top sorted out.

Cheers,

Josh
