If I Am Elected President
Introduction
I am not currently running for President of the United States. However, my time researching historical and psychological concepts has led me to some of the following statements. They are listed as bullet point actions. If I Am Elected President
If I am elected President, here are some of the things I want to do.
- I want to replace the face of former president Andrew Jackson with the face of someone who deserves to be on currency, like Martin Luther King, Jr. or Harriet Tubman. Andrew Jackson was not only a horrible person, but was responsible for multiple large-scale atrocities committed against Native Americans. Andrew Jackson's face is a symbol of genocide.
- While I would prefer the market fix itself in terms of medical insurance, I want to make it mandatory that all medical insurance must cover at least 12 mental health visits with a social worker, therapist, or psychologist. That should be made a requirement for them to even work in the medical insurance business, because in all US states you must have a license to be a psychologist and/or therapist.
- I would push medical insurance off of the federal and state governments (abolishing the majority of the Affordable Care Act) to employers. Basically, all employers must insure their employees fully (full time) or to a percentage based on their average hours per week (i.e. hours divided by 40). And all medical procedures required for their employees to be fully healthy and to do their job must be covered by this insurance.
- The oil pipelines would not be routed through reservations. It's bad enough that this oil comes from land that used to belong to the Native Americans, much less that we would try to forcefully push the pipeline through lands we had forced them to move to.
- Columbus day would be permanently renamed to Indigenous Peoples day. And I would push down to public schools to teach the story of Christopher Columbus, both the good and the bad. Because when I was in school, I was taught only the good parts. The bad parts need to be taught. Only history that includes all the information should be taught in schools, not the white-washed history we often encountered in schools when I was that age.
- All companies which manufacture addictive substances or activities would be required to donate a fixed 10% of their profits to addiction treatments. They create the problem, so they should create the solution. It would be like people checking in to in-patient treatment would be told, for example, "your treatment is being funded by ____" (insert company). However, this system would need to be tightly regulated and monitored to prevent things like companies picking lackluster treatment centers in order to do the minimum, treatment centers pocketing the money and providing lackluster treatment, etc.
